Casual Users
The Waikato Equestrian Centre is an area of approximately 45 hectares situated on the banks of the Waikato River. The beautiful Farm Park contains plenty of features to assist you and your horse in training and learning and also provides a great competition venue serving the Waikato.

PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY – RIDING AT WEC AS OF 01 SEPTEMBER 2024
CASUAL RIDER RATE: $30 per horse/per day (plus $5 per horse yarding)
Specific Casual User Rules (all other standard WCEG Rules apply as well):
- Casual riders membership COMPULSORY more than 24 hours prior to visiting WEC for the first time. See attachment above.
- Pre-booking requirement (casual members only) COMPULSORY. See attachment above.
- No riding in any paddocks where horses are grazing. You can check this on the Closed/Out of Bounds page by clicking HERE
- You must text on arrival and departure. Details are on the sign as you enter the carpark. Phone number is 027 499 5055
- Payment is to be made by Polipay when the day booking is made. No other payment methods are accepted.
- The phone is monitored and spot checks are undertaken. The texts are confirmed with the pre-payments.

What facilities are at WEC?
Cross Country Jumps
Spread over the picturesque farm park there are over 60 cross country jumps from pre-training to Novice. The well drained sandy soils give great footing all year round. The centre hosts Spring and Autumn training and novice horse trials. Please note the cross country jumps are unavailable for one month prior to these events to prepare the course.
Show Jumps
Some show jumps are situated in the Riverside sand arena. From time to time the Riverside Sand arena is booked for events so please check for availability if you require specific jumps.
Pipe Dressage Arena
A PVC pipe arena is usually located in the Riverside Sand arena for dressage schooling and practicing tests. This may not be available in weekends when competitions are using the Riverside arenas.
Riverside Sand Arena 130 x 68m
The Riverside Sand Arena is frequently used as a venue for dressage and jumping competitions. It is available for hire by instructors and event organisers. The Riverside Arena is open all year round.
The Riverside Grass Arena 240 x 85m (affectionately known as the Polo field)
This large picturesque grass field looks out over breath-taking views of the Waikato River, Hakarimata Ranges and grand riverside mansions. It provides great footing all year round for schooling and is frequently used as a competition venue for various equestrian disciplines. The WEC Riverside Grass Arena is open all year when not otherwise booked.
Western Arena
The western arena is a large, fully enclosed sand arena situated at the back of the Riverside Arena. Please – No jumping allowed in the western arena.
Hall Dressage Arena 63 x 27m
Situated behind the WEC Hall on Pukete Road, this sand arena is available to members and paying visitors for schooling and can booked for exclusive use by instructors.
The Farm Park
The beautiful tree-lined Pukete Farm Park is accessible to members and paying riders for hacking out and fitness training. It runs alongside the Waikato River and the 45ha of rolling parkland is ideal for pleasure riding and fitness training.
Hall Hire
A large hall with kitchen facilities is available for meetings, lectures and approved private functions. It’s rural location within the City boundary makes it ideal for band practices, dance groups or club gatherings.
