There are 3 vacancies at the current time:

We are looking for an equine yard assistant to manage a team of horses.  You will be responsible for:

  • Catching and bringing in horses.
  • Preparation of horses for riding lessons.
  • Care of the horses after lessons.
  • Assessment of horses for general health and well-being.
  • The appearance of the yard with “first impressions” being paramount.
  • Some simple paddock maintenance.
  • A small amount of office work (using eftpos, noting payments).

To be successful in this position you must be reliable, able to work to a high standard, have a high level of horsemanship with relevant experience, have initiative and not mind getting your hands dirty.  Qualifications would be an advantage, but are not essential.  It is important that you can follow direction from the WCEG Manager and work unsupervised at times.  You must be able to relate to the riders and the volunteers.  Some experience in coaching would be advantageous (but not essential) as there may be opportunities to coach from time to time.

The role is part time – usually 15-20 hours per week.  Days of work to be discussed – most likely a mix of Tuesday-Saturday inclusive. There could also be other hours available to cover sickness and our increasing clientele.  This will be discussed as the need arises.

For more details or to apply, please send CV and covering letter to:

We are on the hunt for a Handyman (or woman) to join the WEC team.    This person needs to be able to do general maintenance including water pipe repairs, fencing, yards and maybe some tractor/mower work.  In a perfect world, a retired farmer who would like to be doing something for a few hours each week would be perfect.  Most of the jobs are scheduled (i.e. as notified to me), and the odd thing is urgent (water mostly).  Some weeks there will be very little to do and some weeks there could be a few extra things.

We are looking for a tractor driver on a volunteer basis.  This person would be required one day per fortnight to mow and do general tractor work.  Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

If you are interested, please either phone 07 849 6328 or email to find out more.
